Bytedance could have 12 months to divest US TikTok

On Wednesday, 10 April, the chair of the US Senate Commerce Committee, Maria Cantwell, said that the deadline for TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to divest the short video social media app used by 170 million Americans could be extended to one year. Cantwell suggested that extending the deadline could help to guarantee success and that lawmakers are currently discussing the matter with their colleagues. 

The US House of Representatives voted in March to give ByteDance six months to divest the US assets of the short-video app or face a ban.
