US executive order would prevent countries accessing personal data

US President Joe Biden is considering signing an executive order under review by government agencies that would give the US Department of Justice the power to stop countries like China from gaining access to Americans’ personal data. The draft executive order would also direct the Department of Health and Human Services to stop federal funding from supporting the transfer of US health data to foreign adversaries. If signed, the order would provide US Attorney General Merrick Garland with the authority to review and potentially prevent commercial transactions involving data deemed risky to national security.
