Confirmed: government to announce data reform bill in Queen's Speech

On Friday Sky News confirmed reports from earlier in the week that the government will announce a new data protection reform bill during the Queen's Speech on 10 May 2022. The Sky News report indicates that certain industry representatives believe the reforms will benefit the economy; however, the reforms could risk the UK's adequacy status with the EU if they go too fat. The government is expected to publish a response to its data: a new direction consultation in weeks, with the draft bill being published in the summer. The draft bill is part of a wider package of data protection reforms.
