The passage of the proposed Data Protection and Digital Information Bill through parliament is facing further delays after an official for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) confirmed it will be launching a new public consultation. Deputy director for domestic data protection policy at DCMS, Owen Rowland, said the data adequacy agreement with the EU will be "at the heart of the approach we are taking going forward." Rowland added that personal data rights would also be a central component of the legislation.
