EU AI regulation to contain powers to destroy or retrain AI systems

According to an analysis by a legal expert, the EU’s planned AI regulation could include enforcement powers to order the withdrawal or retraining of commercial AI system or model if it is believed to be high risk. The EU Commission published its proposal for the Artificial Intelligence Act almost 12 months ago. However, it continues to face criticism and delays and may still fall short of its purpose to foster the “trustworthy” and “human-centric” AI systems that EU lawmakers desire. If these regulatory powers are enacted, it will mean the EU can force owners of harmful algorithms to make product changes in the interests of the public good.
