Meta to launch AI features in EU, expand AI offering in UK

20/03/2025 | TechCrunch

In a blog article, Meta confirmed that it will launch its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered virtual assistant, Meta AI, in the European Union. The rollout across Meta's social platforms will be limited to its "intelligent chat function" in six European languages—fewer AI-powered features than are currently available in the US market.

Meta clarified that the EU version of Meta AI was not trained on local user data, eliminating the need for user notifications or consent. Anna Dack, Meta's innovation communications manager in EMEA, told TechCrunch: "The model powering these Meta AI features wasn't trained on first-party data from users in the EU."

Separately, Meta confirmed to TechCrunch that it will expand its AI offering in the UK to WhatsApp. The company had previously limited its AI features to Facebook, Instagram, and Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
