Fears over Chinese access to UK genetic data, Pulsic takeover blocked

Security concerns are growing over the transfer of genetic data of more than half a million UK citizens to China following a shift in geopolitical relations between western governments and Beijing. UK Biobank, a large-scale biomedical database and research resource, says it has around 300 projects where researchers in China are accessing anonymised genetic or other health-related data on volunteers. However, there is no indication the privacy of any participants has been compromised.

In related news, the government has blocked the proposed Chinese takeover of UK technology company, Pulsic by Super Orange HK Holding Ltd on the grounds of national security.
