ICO issued reprimand to Met police for filming children at climate protest

A freedom of information (FOI) response obtained by Big Brother Watch revealed the Metropolitan Police unlawfully filmed 10,000 children, some as young as ten years old, attending a climate protest in March 2019. Big Brother Watch complained after witnessing officers filming children during the protest. The Information Commissioner's Office's (ICO) investigation for a potential breach of the Data Protection Act 2018 found the Met had indeed acted unlawfully. In its letter administering the reprimand, the ICO said it "did not demonstrate satisfactory compliance with the first data protection principle", which is that "the processing of personal data for law enforcement reasons must be lawful and fair".
