Meta pauses release of advanced AI system in Europe

18/07/2024 | The Guardian

Meta has announced that it will not release an advanced version of its Llama artificial intelligence (AI) model in the EU due to the "unpredictable" regulatory behaviour of EU data protection authorities. Meta's decision relates to concerns that its AI model complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and an order to stop training its AI models with public posts and comments from Facebook and Instagram users in the EU. Axios reports that Meta isn't seeing the same level of regulatory uncertainty in the UK and is planning to release its AI model in the country.
