No 10 plans to lift safeguards blocking access to patient data revealed

A series of private discussions between senior No 10 advisers, pharmaceutical companies and private healthcare providers have taken place about ideas for transforming the NHS. The plans include lifting safeguards blocking access to patient data. A freedom of information request revealed discussions took place after Boris Johnson appointed a taskforce to generate ideas for cutting red tape after Brexit. Those in attendance included GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, drug company lobbyists and William Warr, Mr Johnson’s chief health adviser. Campaigners for transparency and patient confidentiality have expressed their concerns over the suggestions, which, if implemented, they claim could lower standards and weaken patient protections.
