Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) has disciplined 74 officers after bodycam footage of a drugs arrest, which included a mistake in administering a criminal caution, was watched for “entertainment and amusement.” An investigation by the police ombudsman’s office revealed the footage was viewed 248 times by 82 officers and one civilian employee across 20 police stations over a three-year period. One officer viewed the footage 21 times.
Hugh Hume, the chief executive of the police ombudsman’s office, condemned the actions of the officers, stating they demonstrated a lack of respect for the privacy of the individual arrested and the emotional well-being of their colleague in the footage.
