Ransomware attack on Alder Hey Children's Hospital

29/11/2024 | The Guardian

A ransomware grouknown as INC Ransom has claimed responsibility for a data breach involving Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool, saying that it has stolen sensitive information, including patient records. The group announced that it had published screenshots of the stolen data on the dark web, which reportedly include personal information of patients, records of donations, and procurement details. Sources have verified that the INC website displayed 11 screenshots, allegedly originating from Alder Hey's systems. The images were accompanied by a message indicating "evidence of large scale data" theft and are understood to contain personal information such as names, addresses, medical reports, and financial documents of individuals associated with the hospital.

In a statement, the Trust said: "We are aware that data has been published online and shared via social media that purports to have been obtained illegally from systems shared by Alder Hey and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are working with partners to verify the data that has been published and to understand the potential impact.

"We are taking this issue very seriously and are working with the National Crime Agency as well as partner organisations to secure our systems and to take further steps in line with law enforcement advice as well as our statutory duties relating to patient data."
