Sunak open to global framework placing 'guard rails' around AI

In comments made during a flight to the G7 summit in Japan, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for a "global approach" to artificial intelligence (AI) regulation. “We have taken a deliberately iterative approach because the technology is evolving quickly and we want to make sure that our regulation can evolve as it does as well,” he said. “Now that is going to involve coordination with our allies … you would expect it to form some of the conversations as well at the G7." 

While the UK government is unlikely to support a moratorium as called for in an open letter signed by over 27,000 AI experts in March, including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, it is open to the idea of a global framework.
