Think tank urges UK to relax copyright laws concerning AI development
02/04/2025 | The Guardian
The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) has urged the UK to relax copyright laws in order to let artificial intelligence (AI) companies build new products.
In a new paper, the think tank argued that enforcing strict copyright laws could strain the transatlantic relationship and would likely push AI development to other countries. To enforce a strict licensing model, the UK would also need to restrict access to models that have been trained on such content, which could include US-owned AI systems.
In related news, The Guardian reports a planned protest will take place outside Meta's London office on 3 April, demonstrating against the company's use of copyrighted materials to train its AI systems.
