TikTok's updates privacy notice, outlines data access

In an update to its privacy notice, TikTok outlining details of company-wide user data access. The update, which applies to the European Economic the UK and Switzerland, explains TikTok employees from China and other countries have access to data in order to maintain a "consistent, enjoyable and safe" user experience. TikTok Head of Privacy, Europe, Elaine Fox, said the employee access is based on a "demonstrated need to do their job" and includes a "series of robust security controls and approval protocols" that follow EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation.

Meanwhile, Axios reports the US Federal Communications Commissioner (FTC) Brendan Carr said the Council on Foreign Investment should act to ban TikTok. Citing concerns over TikTok's handling of US users' data along with the risks of data being transferred to China, Carr said, "I don't believe there is a path forward for anything other than a ban."
