The Children's code or Age appropriate design code, which regulates how online services take the "best interests" of users under 18 into account, has received a warm welcome from campaigners as it came into effect today. The code carries similar penalties to the GDPR, up to 4% of annual global turnover. Earlier this week, in a further sign online service providers are taking the Children's code seriously, The Guardian reported that Instagram will require users to enter their birthdate.
