PSNI facing potential £140m data breach compensation and legal costs

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is facing potential compensation costs averaging between £12,500 and £20,000 per officer and staff member concerning the personal data breach in 2023. At these amounts, the total expenditure to cover compensation and legal costs related to the breach could reach up to £140 million. Currently, the PSNI has allocated £116 million to address the estimated expenses, with legal advice suggesting that the bill could fall within the range of £90 million to £140 million.
