A member of the European Parliament who was involved in the creation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation has said that the law needs to be updated. German MEP Axel Voss said the GDPR needs "some type of surgery" as he believes the law cannot properly regulate newer technologies, such as blockchain, facial recognition and artificial intelligence. Dutch MEP Sophie in't Veld disagreed, calling the GDPR "a very general piece of legislation that leaves lots of flexibility for implementation."
