Bulk personal data sharing by UK security services deemed legal

Privacy International has lost an appeal this week in a case about the sharing of Bulk Personal Datasets by UK security services with foreign intelligence agencies. While the Queen's Bench Division judgement acknowledged "serious errors that had been made by GCHQ," the decision means the 2018 ruling by the Investigatory Powers Tribunal will stand and that the data sharing was legal – "compatible with article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights."

The news follows a ruling earlier this week in the European Court of Human Rights where the UK Government accepted its historic mass surveillance practices violated data rights.
