Newly released statistics reveal the number of prosecutions under the Computer Misuse Act dropped in 2020 by 20 per cent. Unauthorised access to computer material was shown to be the most common offence, accounting for 33 of 45 prosecutions under the Act. Only 5 per cent of court prosecutions resulted in a not guilty verdict.
