Government introduces new IoT and smartphone security Bill

The government is passing a new cybersecurity law. The Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Bill is intended to raise minimum security standards in consumer technology, including IoT devices to smartphones, tablets and smart TVs. "Our Bill will put a firewall around everyday tech from phones and thermostats to dishwashers, baby monitors and doorbells, and see huge fines for those who fall foul of tough new security standards." The bill requires producers of technology devices to comply with security standards laid down by the DCMS and will force manufacturers to "take all reasonable steps to investigate" if a vulnerability is reported and to fix them.
