Government opens consultation for a register of infosec professionals

25/01/2022 | The Register

Last week, the government announced a consultation document to transform the UK Cyber Security Council into a statutory regulator for information security professionals. The plans include a register of infosec professionals similar to the General Medical Council. This would mean security specialists could be prohibited from working if they don't meet "competence and ethical requirements." DCMS has even linked these new professional regulation plans with potential Computer Misuse Act amendments. Such a move could result in unregistered professionals not being able to claim any new legal defences.
