UK government seeks indefinite access to GP patient data

There are concerns that the Government intends to extend emergency powers granted to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic indefinitely. A letter from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to Simon Bolton, Interim Chief Executive at NHS Digital, sent on the 17th of February, reveals the Government's plan, "omitting the expiry date" of the emergency COVID powers and "to make a consequential amendment to the review provision."
