Charities disregarding user requests to opt-out of email communications

The Fundraising Regulator has said Charities are sending people emails after they have requested to opt-out, breaching fundraising regulations and data protection law. Following a review of the Fundraising Preference Service (FPS), the regulator found several charities already set up on the FPS are not acting on requests to stop direct marketing communications. The FPS is similar to the telephone preference service, enabling users to opt-out of communications from charities.
