Amazon Echo to disable 'do not send voice recordings' to the cloud feature

Amazon is preparing to discontinue a feature on its Echo smart speakers that allows users to process Alexa requests locally without sending voice recordings to the cloud. The change, effective 28 March 2025, was announced in an email sent to users and posted on Reddit. The email clarifies that the feature is being disabled due to the upcoming launch of Amazon's generative artificial intelligence (AI) powered Alexa Plus, which relies on cloud processing to facilitate the expanded capabilities of Alexa's AI features.
