Government awards BAE private surveillance contract on UK citizens

The National Communications Data Service (NCDS) has awarded a £2 million government support contract to BAE Systems Digital Intelligence to assist law enforcement agencies and other authorities in monitoring the internet records of UK citizens. The service provides access to information held for 12 months by telecommunications companies under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016. The Canary also reports that this is not the only privatised surveillance project BAE or the government are working on.
