Cabinet Office publishes Data Sharing Governance Framework

The Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) has published a framework to promote and increase data sharing across all levels of the public sector. The CDDO, which is part of the Cabinet Office, revealed that the Framework is the next step in the National Data Strategy, first announced in 2020. The Data Sharing Governance Framework focuses on addressing non-technological barriers to data sharing within the public sector. In a press release, Mrs Heather Wheeler MP, Parliamentary Secretary, Cabinet Office, said, "the Framework provides principles and actions to reduce or remove common non-technical frictions and barriers, now and over time. It highlights the relationship between technical data standards and wider data governance."

The ICO's Data Sharing Code of Practice came into effect in October 2021, while Parliament's Science and Technology Committee launched an inquiry to investigate data sharing between public bodies and other industry organisations in December 2021.
