DCMS announces Code of Practice to improve app privacy and security

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has released a voluntary Code of Practice (CoP) to improve security and privacy requirements for app stores and applications. The new measures include improved reporting of software vulnerabilities and greater transparency around privacy and security features. The government will request developers and platform operators involved in the app space to sign up for its CoP following its consultation, which closed in June 2022. DCMS Minister of State Julia Lopez said: "Today we are taking steps to get app stores and developers to keep customers even safer in the online world." The government will continue to work with app developers and operators over the coming nine months to ensure adoption.
