Dr Nicola Byrne reappointed as National Data Guardian until 2027

On Monday, 4 March 2024, the Cabinet Office announced that Dr Nicola Byrne has been reappointed to the role of National Data Guardian for an additional three-year term until 16 March 2027.

Alongside her role as the National Data Guardian, Dr Byrne will continue to serve as a psychiatrist consultant in the NHS.

In a statement, Dr Byrne confirmed that she is delighted to have the opportunity to ensure the highest ethical and legal standards for the use of health and social care data, promoting the safe and appropriate use of data to improve patient care while protecting patient confidentiality and choice. She aims to build public trust in the use of confidential data to improve healthcare outcomes for everyone.
