On Monday, 16 September 2024, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) announced that the UK government would host a three-day summit with leading nations, including EU member states, the US, Canada, and Japan, along with international organisations such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to address the increasing threat of cyberattacks. The discussions, which will take place at Wilton Park in West Sussex, will focus on strengthening global cybersecurity workforces and developing new professional standards. In addition, the UK will commission a report to further this effort by the end of the year to improve cyber skills and combat cybercrime on an international scale. In a more immediate response, the UK government is launching a new scheme to provide tailored support for cyber skills across regions of England and Northern Ireland.
The news comes on the same day that DSIT released its latest research into the UK cyber security labour market.
