DSIT launches consultation into data broker impact on national security

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has launched a public consultation concerning the data broker industry and its potential impact on national security. 

The consultation seeks to understand the operations, security practices, and customer base of data brokers to inform policy development intended to ensure the safe and responsible use of data. The consultation is structured into four parts: defining data brokers and their services, exploring national security risks, assessing the effectiveness of security and governance frameworks, and analyzing customer demographics and consumer awareness.

The consultation closes on 12 May 2025.
