Government announces plans to capitalise on new Brexit freedoms

The UK government has expanded on its plans to benefit from the freedoms following Brexit in an announcement by Lord Frost at the Cabinet Office. The announcement confirms that EU laws kept on the statute book will now either be improved or repealed to improve digitisation and unleash innovation, building on the recommendations from the Taskforce for Regulatory Reform, Innovation and Growth. Over the coming weeks, the government will announce bold reforms across a number of areas, including artificial intelligence, to match the pro-growth recommendations put forward around data—which it hopes will be proportionate and less burdensome than the EU GDPR.
