Home Office publishes details for facial matching API

On Thursday, 27 June 2024, the Home Office Biometrics (HOB) unit published details of an old information notice concerning future plans to procure Strategic Facial Matching API and associated Services. The HOB runs a Biometrics Services Gateway (BSG), an in-house system designed to provide internal connectivity and interface with external systems, allowing access to biometric services within the Home Office and beyond. The Strategic Facial Matching (SFM) Project aims to establish a national facial matching service for law enforcement purposes, with initial developments focused on Retrospective Facial Recognition (RFR) set to begin in Spring 2024. This project will entail infrastructure, software services, and data migration, utilizing new or adapted BSG APIs for future developments.
