Michelle Donelan's open letter on child protections in Online Safety Bill

In an open letter to parents, caregivers and guardians, Michelle Donelan, the Secretary of State for the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), said protections for children online are at the heart of the proposed Online Safety Bill. Donelan highlights social media companies, in particular, saying: "They will be forced to protect their users, or face billion-pound fines and the potential blocking of their sites in the UK." In addition, she said the regulation is intended to shield younger users from illegal content that can cause "serious trauma."
