UK government calls for swift implementation of Online Safety Act

In a letter to Melanie Dawes, the chief executive of Ofcom, dated 16 October 2024, the UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Peter Kyle called on the communications regulator to ensure that the Online Safety Act 2023 (OSA) protections are put in place as soon as possible. 

In the letter, Kyle emphasised the importance of holding services accountable for online safety, highlighting the illegal harms codes of practice and risk assessment guidelines that Ofcom has committed to finalising by year-end, along with the children's access guidelines, set for release in early 2025 are two significant milestones for the implementation of the OSA.
