UK government launches International Data Transfer Expert Council

The government has announced the formation of the International Data Transfer Expert Council, which is designed to "help Britain seize the opportunities of better global data sharing." The 20-member group features industry representatives from companies like Google, Mastercard and Microsoft, along with a number of privacy professionals, including IAPP Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer Caitlin Fennessy, CIPP/US. The Data Minister Julia Lopez said the initiative will push the UK to "drive forward cutting-edge policies at home and overseas to ensure people, businesses and economies benefit from safe and secure data flows." The press release outlines the role of the Council will be to "give advice on the development of new international data transfer tools and mechanisms and securing new data adequacy partnerships with other countries."
