The United Nations Office for the High Commissioner of Human Rights has published a report outlining the privacy threats individuals face from "modern networked digital technologies." The right to privacy in the digital age report concentrated on three areas: government abuses of spyware, the role of encryption plays in protecting human rights online, and digital surveillance of public spaces. The report concluded that urgent measures are required to curtail the use of spyware before "adequate safeguards to protect human rights are in place."
In a related post, Privacy International published its oral statement from its participation in the interactive dialogue on the UN report on the right to privacy in the digital age.
