Signal hacked as a result of cloud communications company breach

Hackers breached third-Party SMS Service company Twilio. The cloud technology provider provides infrastructure to companies that send automated text messages to users. The breach enabled hackers to take over user accounts linked to phone numbers on services that use Twilio. Encrypted messaging application Signal was one of those services. Signal announced hackers had targeted approximately 1,900 users. Hackers may have registered the stolen phone numbers on their devices and intercepted text verification codes.
