Facial recognition supports mass surveillance

A coalition of 51 organizations is urging the European Commission to put a halt to the use of facial recognition for mass surveillance purposes. In a letter to European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, the coalition wrote about its desires to see provisions on protecting citizens' rights related to biometric deployments added to upcoming EU laws. Elsewhere, The Guardian explains how smart homes risk privacy with their potential sharing of personal information with law enforcement.
